Jacob Chase died when his motorcycle hit a fallen tree.

A GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a Lincoln County man who died in a motorcycle accident on N.C. 73 Wednesday was more than halfway to its goal of $20,000 as of early Thursday afternoon.

Jacob Wayne Chase, 24, died after his Harley Davidson hit a tree that had fallen across the road at about 2 a.m. near Cowan’s Ford Country Club, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

“Unfortunately he had no insurance so the family is left struggling to find a way to pay his funeral expenses,” wrote Hollie Fox, who created the GoFundMe page. “Jacob was one of the most kind hearted, loving people you could ever come across. Jacob did so many kind things for so many people, all you needed to do was say the word and he would be there.”

The crash happened between Club Drive and Killian Farm Road, just west of Lake Norman. The downed tree also knocked out power to hundreds of homes.
