East Lincoln at West Lincoln (baseball)

Breakdown: The East Lincoln Mustangs will be riding high coming off a 7-6 victory in extra innings over Maiden to hand the Blue Devils their first loss in the South Fork 2A conference. East Lincoln will hope to continue climbing the conference standings when they make a trip to Vale to take on another of the league’s top teams in cross-county rival West Lincoln, which enters the weekend tied for second with a 5-2 conference record. A win for East Lincoln would draw them even with West Lincoln at 5-3 in league play, and avenge an 6-2 loss to the Rebels on March 5.

Newton-Conover at East Lincoln (softball)
Time: 5 p.m.
Breakdown: The East Lincoln Lady Mustangs will attempt to pull even with Newton-Conover in South Fork 2A conference play by avenging a March 7 loss to the Lady Red Devils. Newton-Conover barely escaped with a win in front of its home crowd in that contest, edging East Lincoln 5-4 behind a strong pitching performance from sophomore Grace Loftin. The Lady Mustangs picked up a key victory over Maiden March 26, winning 5-4 in extra innings to move into sole possession of third place in with a 5-2 conference record.
Wednesday, April 3
Bandys at Lincoln Charter (baseball)
Time: 7 p.m.
Breakdown: Two area teams that have enjoyed successful seasons to this point will meet for a non-conference matchup when the Bandys Trojans travel to Denver to take on the Lincoln Charter Eagles. The Eagles have lost just once this season, dropping a heartbreaker to Cherryville in extra innings March 12. Lincoln Charter has won six straight since, outscoring opponents 86-5 during that span. Bandys had also been on a run, winning four straight before falling to West Lincoln March 26. The Trojans are led by a stellar pitching staff, which has posted a 1.72 earned-run average through nine games this season.
