The Lincoln Charter boys basketball team continued its dominant start by picking up a win over Asheville’s T.C. Roberson during the Thanksgiving break.
The Eagles got out to a 24-4 lead after the first quarter and won 81-50. The game was held at the UNC-Asheville arena.
Senior guard Jackson Gabriel scored 21 points on 14 shots, while three other Eagles scored in double-figures: Levontae Knox had 12, Dimitri McCall had 11 and Tron Robinson scored 10.
McCall collected eight rebounds to lead the team, while Gabriel had seven as well as five assists. The team had 13 steals against the 3A Rams.
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Eagles moved to 4-0 after a 99-37 win over Cabarrus Charter. Lincoln Charter scored 30-plus in each of the first two quarters and only allowed four points in the third frame.
Junior Axel Holm had a team-high 22 points on 11 shots, also grabbing four rebounds. The team’s leading scorer Gabriel had 10 assists to go with 14 points.
The Eagles made 12-of-23 3-pointers.
Eagles back to .500 after win
DENVER – The Lincoln Charter girls basketball team defeated Cabarrus Charter 55-20 Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Eagles were led by junior Natalie Hamlen and junior Felicity Fields, who each scored 12 points. Freshman Lauren Horton, sophomore Kendra Fuller and junior Hannah Hansley all chipped in with 6 points apiece.
Lincoln Charter moved to 1-1 on the season, having lost to Langtree Charter 52-51 to open the year. The Eagles host Uwharrie Charter Friday, Nov. 30.
Both Bandys teams start 1-0
LENOIR – The Bandys girls basketball team picked up a close win over West Caldwell to open the 2018-19 season.
The Trojans, who won 51-50, trailed by 13 entering the fourth quarter but outscored the Warriors 24-10 in the final frame.
The boys team also picked up a season-opening victory taking out West Caldwell, 72-69.
Bandys’ teams’ next games are Tuesday, Dec. 4, at St. Stephens.
East Lincoln’s first game is Friday, Nov. 30 at North Gaston.
