Milas Leonard Beal

LINCOLNTON – Milas Leonard Beal, 87, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

He was born April 4, 1931, in Lincoln County to the late Noah Edward and Susan Shrum Beal.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Timken as a lead manufacturing associate.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Whitesides Beal; two brothers, William E. Beal and Darrell V. Beal; three sisters, Mattie Beal Richards, Marie Beal Wilkinson and Shirley Beal Sigmon .

Survivors include his children, Rhonda Little and husband, Don, Tracy Beal and wife, Cressey, Stacy Lane and husband, Al; five sisters, Evie Beal Lynch, Joyce Beal Mitchem, Betty Beal Setzer, Queeta Beal Harkey and Linda Beal Chambers; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 15 at Antioch Baptist Church.

Donna Lail Mooneyhan

LINCOLNTON – Donna Lail Mooneyhan, 62, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

She was born March 25, 1956, in Lincoln County to the late Russell Audrey Lail and Luena Waldrop Lail.

She worked as a chemist for Duke Energy and a high school teacher in Lincoln County High Schools.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Mooneyhan; a daughter, Lauren McCotter and husband, Brandon; a son, Stephen Mooneyhan; a brother, Audie Lail; a sister, Penny Newsome; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 13 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Travis Lee Herron

IRON STATION – Travis Lee Herron, 37, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.

He was born June 12, 1981, in Gaston County to Terry and Sandra Shuler Herron.

He worked as an HVAC technician at Barrett Heating and Air.

Survivors include his parents his daughter, Adia Jade Herron; brother, Joshua Herron; sisters, Ashley Ingram and Wendy Campo and husband, Rodney, Toni Rimmer and Tomorrow Lynn Dowd; and brother-in-law, Michael Barrett.

Services were held Jan. 12 in the Warlick Funeral Home chapel.

Virginia Stewart Ledford

DENVER – Virginia Stewart Ledford, 87, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

She was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Catawba County to the late Eugene Stewart and Jennie Hunsucker Stewart.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Stewart Construction and Walker Construction.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester “Jim” Ledford; four brothers, Craig Stewart, Ray Stewart, Grover Stewart and John Stewart; and three sisters, Inez S. Sigmon, Margie S. Spencer and Daisy S. Gregory.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Deal Wagoner and husband, David; a brother, Delane Stewart; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 11  at Westport Baptist Church.

Powell Lee Smith

HICKORY – Powell Lee "Smitty" Smith Jr., 74, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Springs of Catawba.

He was born June 17, 1944, in Charleston, S.C., to the late Powell Lee Smith and Christine Bost Smith of Newton.

He worked in sales.

Survivors include his three sons, Scott Smith, Andrew Smith and Zack Smith; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 8 at Willis Reynolds Funeral Home.
