SHERRILLS FORD – Marilyn Voigt Fertig, 74, died June 7, 2019, at her residence.

She was born June 15, 1944, in Glendale, N.Y., to the late Bernard Voigt and Lillian Smith Voigt.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Horbert and Muriel Culver.

Survivors include her husband, Robert F. Fertig; son, Robert F. Fertig Jr. and wife, Erin, of Catawba; daughters, Kim Davis and husband, Thomas, of Sherrills Ford, April Nelson and husband, Jack, of Sherrills Ford; brothers, Fred Voigt and wife, Virginia, and Bernard Voigt Jr. and wife, JoAnn; sisters, June Mastrandrea, Arlene Dalessandro and husband, Arthur, Virginia Mulé and husband, Joseph; and six grandchildren.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catawba.

Margie Hallman Gales Heafner

LINCOLNTON – Margie Hallman Gales Heafner, 94, died June 7, 2019.

She was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Lincoln County to the late Ernest W. Hallman and Fannie Armstrong Hallman.

She worked for Carolina Mills.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.D. Gales; second husband, Hall Heafner; and a daughter, Becky Faye Gales High.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Lewis High, and two grandchildren.

Services were held June 10 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Wilson

LINCOLNTON – Dorothy “Dot” Jean Wilson, 88, died June 5, 2019.

She was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Lincoln County to the late Robert Wilson and Burtis Canipe Wilson Keever.

She worked as a beautician then retired from textiles.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Thurn Wilson, Bob Wilson and Roy Baker; sisters, Sue Caldwell, Essie Tolbert, Margaret Talbert and Mary Wilson; half-brother, Ray Wilson; and half-sister, Willie Dellinger.

Survivors include her son, Jennings Lavon “Butch” Wilson and wife, Renae; daughter, Sherry Collins and husband, Jim; brothers, David Wilson and wife, Betty, and Joe Wilson and wife, Doris, of Iron Station; sister-in-law, Ovella Wilson; three grandchildren; and one step-grandson.

Services were held June 8 at Hollybrook Cemetery.

Nancy Woodward Harrill

LINCOLNTON – Nancy Woodward Harrill, 78, died June 3, 2019.

She was born Dec. 22, 1940, in Lincoln County to the late Clyde Andrew Woodward and Agnes Louise Lawing Woodward.

She worked as a teacher’s assistant for Lincoln County Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Wyatt Harrill.

Survivors include her sons, Steven Harrill and wife, Karen, David Harrill and Wesley Harrill and wife, Priscilla, all of Lincolnton; brother, Pete Woodward and wife, Patsy, of Iron Station; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 6 at Warlick Funeral Home and June 7 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Betty Aileen Hill Winchenbach

SHERRILLS FORD – Betty Aileen Hill Winchenbach, 94, died June 1, 2019.

She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Anne Arundel County, Md., to the late Howard Niles and Thelma Elizabeth Long Hill.

She worked as a school secretary in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Winchenbach, and a son, Warren Lyle Winchenbach.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Best of Sherrills Ford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Services were held June 8 at St. Peter’s by-the-Lake Episcopal Church.
