Joe Lane Ervin

LINCOLNTON – The Rev. Joe Lane Ervin, 88, died Aug. 29, 2018, at his home.

Ervin was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Buncombe County to the late Rev. McKinley Gladstone Ervin and Elizabeth Williams Ervin.

Ervin built 134 churches in the United States and overseas and was pastor emeritus at Boger City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn M. Ervin; daughters, Susan Ervin Michael and husband, Larry, and Alice Lane Ervin; son, Mike Pitman and partner, Anne Craven; brother, Winfred Ervin and wife, Virginia; sister-in-law, Alice Kennedy Ervin; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 1 at Boger City United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Boger City UMC.

Sharon Faulkenbury Blackwood

LINCOLNTON – Sharon Faulkenbury Blackwood, 62, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018.

She was born Aug. 13, 1956, in Lincoln County to the late Donald Lamarr Faulkenbury and Mary Ruth Humphries Cole.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Blackwood; and brother, Chris Faulkenbury.

Survivors include Dale Detter; daughter, Crystal Fredell and husband, Kenny, of Lincolnton; son, Stanley Blackwood and wife, April, of Lincolnton; brother, Gary Faulkenbury of Lincolnton; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were to be held at a later date at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

Sammy Kaye Griffin

LINCOLNTON – Sammy Kaye Griffin, 61, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2018.

Sammy was born Aug. 15, 1957, in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Samuel Joseph Griffin Jr. and Kathrine Elder Griffin.

Survivors include his brother, Joe Griffin and wife, Tori; and his partner, Valerie Kim Seagle of Lincolnton.

Services were held Aug. 31 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Lincoln County, P.O. Box 23, Lincolnton, NC 28093.
