Ernest Hunt Jr.

DENVER – Ernest Cleveland "E.C." Hunt Jr., 96, died July 25, 2018, in Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Henderson to the late Ernest Cleveland and Virginia Pendleton Hunt.

Hunt served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and then the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was chairman and CEO of Thermo Industries Inc. and funded scholarships at N.C. State and Elon University.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Nunnery Hunt, and eight siblings.

Survivors include his son, Ernie Hunt III and wife, Denise; daughter, Amy Hunt Roberts and husband, Dr. William Roberts; sisters, Janie Clark and Peggy Williams; and three grandchildren.

Services will take place 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Peninsula Yacht Club, 18501 Harbor Light Blvd., Cornelius.

Christopher Thomas Pope

ROTONDA WEST, Fla. – Christopher Thomas Pope, 54, died July 25, 2018.

He was born Sept. 28, 1963, in Mooresville to Lester Tommy Pope and Erma Christopher Pope.

Survivors include his mother; son, Christopher Lee Pope and wife, Danielle; daughter, Katlin Danielle of Denver; sister, Ann Pope Shields; and three grandchildren.

A visitation was held Aug. 1 at Raymer Kepner Funeral Home, and services were held privately.

Teddy Wayne Heavner

LINCOLNTON – Teddy Wayne Heavner, 63, died July 24, 2018.

Heavner was born Jan. 16, 1955, in Cleveland County to the late Webb Alexander Heavner and Lillian Yarbro Heavner.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Williams Heavner; daughters, Ashe-leigh Brusso and husband, Stephen, of Lincolnton, and Fallon Crofoot and husband, Ike; brother, Tony Heavner and wife, Nina; sister, Renee Hoffman and husband, Steve; brothers-in-law Clyde Thomas Brown and Eddie Williams and wife, Pam; and five grandchildren.

Services were held July 28 at Pursuit Church in Denver.

Rebecca Haynes Richardson

DENVER – Rebecca “Ging” Haynes Richardson, 75, died Sunday, July 22, 2018.

She was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Durham to the late Lewis Clay Haynes and Elizabeth Spoon Haynes.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Richardson Raxter of Denver; sisters, Kay Haynes Sudduth and husband, Michael Campbell Sudduth, and Abbie Haynes Bailey and husband, Richard Scott Bailey of Huntersville; and one grandson.

Services were held on July 25 at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home.

Sylvester Ervin Charles and Agnes Geraldine Charles

LINCOLNTON – The Rev. Sylvester Ervin Charles and Mother Agnes Geraldine Charles, ages 76 and 74, respectively, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at their home.

Sylvester was born Aug. 26, 1942, to the late Izell Charles and Mildred Hopper Charles. Agnes was born June 16, 1944, to the late Johnnie McRavion and Carrie Reinhardt McRavion.

Survivors include their sons, Baron “Bunky” Charles of Lincolnton, Sylvester Ervin Charles Jr., Mzee Nkosi, Kerry Charles of Lincolnton, James Anthony Charles and Benjamin Charles; daughters, Sandie J. Charles of Lincolnton, Tiffany C. Young of Lincolnton, Nola “Snowflake” Charles of Lincolnton; special son, Joe A. Williams of Statesville and special daughter, Arnetta Cooke.

Services were held July 28 at Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church. Inurnment followed in the Frances Danner Memorial Park.

William “Bill” Gaston Leonard

LINCOLNTON – William “Bill” Gaston Leonard, 95, died on Monday, July 16, 2018.

Leonard was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Lincoln County, to the late Charles C. and Knoxie Kiser Leonard.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn James Leonard; sons, Steve Leonard, and wife, Carol, of Sherrills Ford, and Andy Leonard and wife, Rebekah, of Stanley; daughter, Beth Wise and husband, Don; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services were held July 21 at Emanuel Reformed Church.
