William “Bill” Gaston Leonard

LINCOLNTON – William “Bill” Gaston Leonard, 95, died Monday, July 16, 2018.

Leonard was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Lincoln County, to the late Charles C. and Knoxie Kiser Leonard.

He was the president of Lincoln Wholesale Grocery.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn James Leonard; sons, Steve Leonard, and wife Carol, of Sherrills Ford, and Andy Leonard, and wife Rebekah, of Stanley; daughter, Beth Wise, and husband, Don; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services were held July 21 at Emanuel Reformed Church.

Harold Junior Bivens

LINCOLNTON – Harold Junior Bivens, 80, died Sunday, July 15, 2018.

Bivens was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Lincoln County, to the late John Lourico Bivens and Maebell Canipe Bivens.

Bivens worked for Vermont American Tool Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Byrd Bivens; and brother, Bobby Lee Bivens.

Survivors include his son, Tom Bivens and wife, Sandra, of Lincolnton; daughters, Cindy Dellinger and husband, Darrell, Shelby Brooks and husband, John, Wanda Helton, Tammie Bandy and husband, Ken, and Sherry Gantt and husband, Kenneth, all of Lincolnton; brothers, Richard Bivens and wife, Sue, and Roy Bivens and wife, Cindy, all of Lincolnton; sisters, Brenda B. Savage and husband, Roney, Kay B. Terry and Faye B. Ventura and husband, Emilio, all of Lincolnton; sister-in-law, Essie Bivens; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held July 19 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Samuel Houston Kelly

DENVER – Samuel Houston Kelly, 71, died Friday, July 13, 2018.

Kelly was born March 31, 1947, in Central, S.C., to the late Houston Kelly and Della Cannon Kelly.

He worked for Duke Energy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Hendricks.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Hope Kelly; son, Mark Oates of Denver; brother, James Henry Kelly and wife, Frances; sisters, Penny Smith and husband, Mike, and Judy Barnasky and husband Eddie; and one granddaughter.

Services were held July 20 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Central, S.C. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

James Wayne Goins

LINCOLNTON – James “Jim” Wayne Goins, 77, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Goins was born Feb. 4, 1941, in Lincoln County to the late Evan and Clara Huffman Goins.

He worked for the Lincoln County Solid Waste Department.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Peeler Goins, and daughter, Jamie Goins of Lincolnton.

Services were held July 21 at Woodside Church of Our Savior.

Joseph Orlando Jr.

IRON STATION – Joseph Orlando Jr., 68, died Monday, July 9, 2018.

Orlando was born May 25, 1950, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Joseph Orlando and Matilda Ascolese Orlando.

He worked as a computer salesman.

Survivors include his daughters, Theresa Orlando, Tammy Wolfson and Susan Sharpe; brothers, Salvatore Joseph Orlando, and wife, Marilyn, of Lincolnton, Raymond Orlando and wife, Veronica, and David Orlando and wife, Sandy; and five grandchildren.

Services were held July 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Mary Aline Mullinax Schronce

LINCOLNTON – Mary Aline Mullinax Schronce, 83, died Monday, July 9, 2018.

Schronce was born Nov. 3, 1934, in Gaston County to the late John Wesley and Modena Delithia West Mullinax.

She worked for Leslie Fay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene “Buck” Schronce, and son, David Schronce.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dianne Schronce; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held July 12 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Exodus Baptist Church cemetery.

Ethel Mozelle Waldrop Williams Robinson

IRON STATION – Ethel Mozelle Waldrop Williams Robinson, 77, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, at her home.

Robinson was born Sept. 22, 1940, to the late John Henry Waldrop and Arvilla Cook Waldrop.

Robinson was retired from Wachovia.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Preston Robinson and siblings, Marie Childers and Maxine Cunnup.

Survivors include her daughter, LeAnne Williams of Iron Station; brothers, Joe Waldrop, J.D. Waldrop of Denver, J.R. Waldrop, Jack Waldrop, Jerry Waldrop and Jan Waldrop; and sisters, Mabel Frazer, Monteen Ashley and Margaret Dellinger.

Services were held July 11 at Alexis Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Smith

LINCOLNTON – Mary Elizabeth (Zeigler) Smith, 80, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Smith was born April 6, 1938, in Enola, Penn., to the late John and Elsie (Snur) Zeigler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Smith and son, Stephen E. Smith.

She is survived by her sons, David Smith, Michael Smith and Charles Smith; daughter, Karen Wood; sisters, Nancy Zeigler, Sara Palezmo and Janet Zeigler; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
