DENVER – Each year, the Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club holds a “Day at the Lake” event for area foster children and their families.

The 2019 event was held in June when a Denver home was opened to 250 families from Lincoln County Foster Care and Catawba County Foster Care. Also in attendance were the children of refugees from the central highlands of Vietnam who are clients of Fochus, a Charlotte-based nonprofit dedicated to helping acclimate newcomers to society in America through educational support and other resources.

Rotary volunteers helped the children enjoy a full day of burgers, swimming, water skiing lessons and boat rides. Ice cream was also donated by J.K. Cones.

Eight of the children in attendance were able to enjoy the day with their siblings, who they had not seen in more than a year.
