Sleepy hollow 2018

Many types of Halloween-themed visual arts, from paintings to sculptures, are on display at the Sleepy Hollow 2018 exhibit.

1. The annual show is through Nov. 3

Each year Gallery 27 puts on a “Sleepy Hollow” exhibit, which features a variety of mediums expressing all things Halloween. A gallery press release described the event as “the blurring of the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death … a time of jubilation and superstition.” The exhibit opened Oct. 6 and will be there until Nov. 3. Gallery 27 is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Gallery 27 is at 808 N.C. 27, Lincolnton. Call 704-240-9060 or go to www.ncgallery27.com to learn more about the gallery.

2. Many types of visual arts will be represented and on-theme

The deadline for submitting artwork has passed, but Gallery 27 took in pieces in a variety of mediums, including paintings, photography, mixed media, fiber, paper, wood, glass, sculpture, clay, metal, jewelry and more. The idea behind the exhibit is for the artwork to be related to Halloween. Artists are also encouraged to dress up in costume for the exhibit to add to the festive flare.

3. There’s going to be a party Oct. 27

Those interested in seeing the exhibit have several weeks to check it out, but on Oct. 27 there’s going to be a Halloween party with treats and more. If you go to the party, consider going in costume. The party is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. and is free to attend.

4. If you did submit a piece, there are scheduled pickup times

If your artwork is being featured in the show, be aware of pickup deadlines. Times are set for the following: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7-8; noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 9; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11. According to a Gallery 27 press release, it’s their policy to have artists pick up pieces not sold during the exhibit within 10 days of the show ending, and “any work not picked up within 10 days will become property of Gallery 27 and donated to a charity of our choice.” Also, the gallery keeps 30 percent of any artwork sold through the event.

5. The gallery hosts other events, too

From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 13, Gallery 27 is hosting a cross stitch class. The cost to join is $25 and includes supplies. There will be a few fall-themed patterns to choose from, and the instructor, Carol Patterson, will walk participants through what supplies to use, patterns, counting and stitching. The event is open to older children and adults. Details: 704-240-9060
