DENVER – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a carjacking that occurred Wednesday, April 3, in the parking lot of Murphy’s Convenience Store.

Deputies were dispatched to the location around 10:45 a.m. in response to a call from a woman who reported that a man had taken her vehicle at knifepoint, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The victim told deputies that she and the suspect work at a fast food restaurant on N.C. 73, and that they left the business together. She said that they argued after they arrived at the convenience store and the suspect threatened her with a knife. She then exited the vehicle with her two-year-old daughter before the suspect fled in the vehicle toward the intersection of N.C. 73 and N.C. 16. The victim and her child were not injured.

The suspect was identified as Brandon Wayne Morefield, 33, of Jenkins Road in Lincolnton. Morefield is 5-foot-9, approximately 185 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with North Carolina license plate CBT4422. He was armed with a knife.

Morefield has been charged with one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a motor vehicle. He had not been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon. He is known to frequent the Gaston County area.
