Dr. Nathen Ellis is originally from Wilkesboro but said he and his wife loved the location and convenience of the Denver area.

DENVER – When Dr. Nathen Ellis was getting ready to open up Denver Dental Arts, he knew he wanted his practice to have more of a home-like atmosphere rather than a clinical one.

“Personally, it was something that I wanted because that was kind of my vision,” he said. “I just didn’t want it to look like a dental practice. I wanted to help people feel at home.”

To help achieve that vision, the patient chairs are heated and are equipped to give massages. There are also televisions above the chairs that let patients watch Netflix during their appointment. Ellis said he hopes these features can help ease anxiety some patients may feel about visiting the dentist.

“It gives them a little bit of comfort knowing we’re trying to help them be comfortable,” he said. “It’s just being able to do dentistry in an environment where they feel like they can be relaxed and really comfortable.”

Denver Dental Arts opened toward the end of October. Ellis previously practiced in Lincolnton for four years but lived with his family in the Denver area and said he thought it would be a good place to open a dental practice, considering how it is expected to grow in the coming years.

“We just really liked the area, being close to the lake,” he said. “Everybody we’ve met here is friendly.”

Ellis said he was originally more interested in medical school during college, but after working in a dental clinic, he fell in love with dentistry. He liked the more immediate fix he saw in dentistry.

“In medicine there’s a lot of chronic diseases and problems that sometimes you may never be able to fix, but for most things in dentistry you can fix those things over the course of a year or two and get a good result and help the patient and restore their aesthetics and their function,” he said. “And I think that’s what really drew me is that if somebody has a toothache or something, we can remove the tooth, place an implant, fix that, give them a tooth back in a short period of time.”

Ellis is the only dentist at Denver Dental Arts. He said it’s important to him that when patients come in, they know who will be seeing them.

Denver Dental Arts is located at 7206 Austin Smiles Court, Suite 103. For more information, call  704-951-8272.
