Ronald Blake Hughes

MOUNT HOLLY – Ronald Blake Hughes, 26, died Sept. 16, 2017.

He was born Aug. 3, 1991, in Virginia to James Kenneth Hughes and the late Lisa Ann Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his mother and maternal grandfather, Ronald Harris.

Survivors inlcude his father, James and wife, Lisa T., of Stanley; fiancee, Denise; brothers, Matthew Hughes and wife, Erin, Noah Hughes and Taylor Tomlinson and wife, Abby; sister, Brittany Tutterow and husband, Hampton; and grandparents, Kenneth Hughes, Virginia Reardon and Maryann Harris.

Services were held Sept. 23.

John Thomas King

CATAWBA – John Thomas King Sr., 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017.

He was born April 6, 1931, in Loris, S.C., to the late Alton Perry and Nancy Leona King.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Harriet Suggs King, and brothers, Ed King and his wife, Betty, and Robert King.

Survivors include two sons, John Thomas King Jr. and wife, Myra, and Gregory Suggs King and wife, Mary; a daughter, Donna Reynolds of Huntersville; a brother, Wayne King and wife, Carolyn; a sister, Sadie Gore and husband, Curtiss; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 26 at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden with Pastor David J. Niemeyer officiating.

William Major

SHERRILLS FORD – William “Bill” Major, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, in Sherrills Ford.

He was born in Washington, D.C., to Rodman and Freda Wahl Major on Feb. 2, 1944.

He worked in the mechanical trades and was a U.S. Army veteran.  

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nancy Vanderburg Major; daughter, Kelly and husband, Alton Johnson; son, Randy Major; sister, Marlene Ross and husband, Robert, of Denver; and a grandson.

Services were held Oct. 21 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel.

Larry Wade Helton

ALEXIS – Larry Wade Helton, age 61, died Oct. 30, 2017.

He was born July 14, 1956, in Gaston County, to the late Bennie and Vergie Ballard Helton.

He worked as the membership director for the Lincoln Country Club.  

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Clippard Helton; two daughters, Landice Helton and fiancé, Zach Krumpfer, and Lindsay Gee and husband, Casey; and a grandson.

Services were held Nov. 2 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Ralph Winters Disher

LINCOLNTON – Ralph Winters Disher, age 88, died Oct. 29, 2017.  

He was born April 18, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., but grew up in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was a champion tennis player.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as an optician.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Christiansen Disher, and a daughter, Carol Winters Redmon.  

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nita Mobley Disher; a son, Scott Christiansen Disher and wife, Cynthia; step-daughters, Karen Eakins and Suzanne Mauney of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 7 at First United Methodist Church.
