LINCOLNTON – Filing for Lincoln County municipal, county and state elections began at noon Monday, Feb. 12, and dozens filled the Lincoln County Board of Elections office, either waiting to declare their candidacy or in support of someone running.

Two seats are open on both the Lincolnton City Council and the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners. The commissioner seats include that of current board Chairman Bill Beam and Commissioner Martin Oakes.

Citizens will also be able to cast their vote for Lincolnton mayor, Lincoln County sheriff, Lincoln County register of deeds, district attorney and county clerk, in addition to state House and Senate representatives.

Filing ends at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, and candidates have until Friday, Feb. 23, to withdraw their name from consideration.
