U.S. Rep. Alma Adams said Friday that while she believes President Donald Trump “has demonstrated a clear disregard for the rule of law and he must be held accountable,” she is not ready to pursue impeachment.
“Impeachment is not off the table,” added the Democrat, whose district includes Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. “However, before we move forward the American people deserve all the facts.”
Adams said she supports “an impeachment inquiry.”
“Congress has a sacred responsibility to obtain the information necessary to determine the next steps,” she said in a statement.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to oppose launching impeachment hearings despite calls from a growing number of Democrats to do so. The California Democrat has said not it’s not worth dividing the country when the Senate is unlikely to convict the president even if the House impeaches him.
