Amanda Sambach

Amanda Sambach will play for the U.S. team in the Ping Junior Solheim Cup.

Davidson teen Amanda Sambach was announced as one of 12 Americans to compete in the Ping Junior Solheim Cup Sept. 10-11 in Scotland.

The Solheim Cup is the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup, and a junior event is held for ages 12-18 at the same time. Past rosters include a who’s who of future women’s golf stars.

Sambach is a junior at Cannon School and tied for 11th at the Symetra Classic in May at her home course of River Run Country Club. She was chosen based on the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Clanton wins on LPGA

Cydney Clanton, who plays out of River Run, won her first LPGA event July 20 in Midland, Mich.

Combining with Jasmine Suwannapura as “Team All In,” they shot 27-under in best-ball play over four days at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, the LPGA’s first official team event.

Clanton came just a few dollars short on earning her LPGA card this season and had been playing Symetra Tour events to try to get back on the LPGA, according to Symetra Classic tournament director Jon Show.

With the win, she’ll gain full LPGA status for the next two years.
