DAVIDSON – Work related to continuing utility line improvements will disrupt some normal traffic routes through town from now until the middle of March.
The town and Charlotte Water have issued statements indicating Lorimer Road will be ground zero for construction-related detours. The work, scheduled to begin Feb. 11, is expected to cause road closures and traffic re-routing in the southwest part of downtown Davidson’s for about five weeks.
Charlotte Water and Propst Construction are installing a new water line to enhance service in Davidson and the work will close sections of Lorimer to through traffic in two phases. During the entire process, residents will have access but through traffic will be diverted.
Phase 1 will close Lorimer between Hillside Drive and Chairman Blake Lane for an estimated two weeks. Through traffic will be detoured to College Drive.
Phase 2, expected to last for three weeks, will close Lorimer between Chairman Blake Lane and Concord Road. Chairman Blake Lane will be used as a detour route and during this phase parking on Lorimer and, potentially, at the Village Green, will be restricted.
After the project, work crews will temporary restore areas disturbed by construction. Final restoration may occur after all work is completed.
