CSD at MICS boys

When: 7:30 p.m. 

Breakdown: This is the only game this week featuring two teams in the Lake Norman Publications’ footprint. MICS lost 70-56 to Victory Christian Center Nov. 29 in its first game of the year and will be coming off consecutive road games before facing PAC 7 1A foe CSD. Demetrious Washington was the leading scorer for the Raptors in the VCC game, with 14 points. The Raptors went 17-9 last year but lost their two leading scorers. CSD started the year 0-2, its first loss coming in overtime to Highland Tech. Look for senior captains Sage Alexander and Brandon Ellington to lead the Spartans in scoring. 

 

Tuesday, Dec. 11

Hopewell at Olympic boys

When: 7:30 p.m. 

Breakdown: Following a season-opening blowout loss to Independence, the Hopewell boys compiled a 3-1 record entering the Dec. 5 showdown at High Point Central (held after press deadline). But the game against Olympic will be the Titans’ biggest test since the opener. Versatile guard Brice Williams didn’t play until the Lake Norman Charter game Nov. 27. Forward Alvin Cannady is averaging 15.5 points per game  and 6.8 rebounds. And guard Kendyl Lloyd is filling the stat sheet with 2.5 assists, 4.5 steals and 3.5 rebounds. Olympic is 3-0 and led by Joshua Banks, who scored 26 to open the season against Myers Park.

 

Rocky River at Hough girls

When: 6 p.m. 

Breakdown: The Huskies are 2-2 coming off a 41-39 loss to Providence Nov. 30, and look to get back in the winning column this week. Other than the Providence game, all of Hough’s games have been blowouts; the wins are by 26 and 25, and the loss at Ardrey Kell was by 23. Through three games, the Huskies leading scorer was  junior guard Anna Mroz with 14 points per game. Sophomore guard Carolina Swartz is scoring 12.7 points per game and is third on the team in rebounding with 4.0 a contest. Rocky River started the year with a 2-0 record entering a Dec. 7 game against Anson County. Delayzha Dixon, a 5-foot-6 guard, leads the team in points and rebounds with 18.5 and 12, respectively.
