HUNTERSVILLE – Hopewell has named Shawn McGeorge its new head baseball coach, taking over for Justin Sherman.

McGeorge spent this past year as an assistant coach at East Gaston under Randy Sellers after three seasons in the same role at Evansville (Ind.) High School.

McGeorge is making his second stint in the Charlotte region, as he was head coach at Mallard Creek from 2008-13. He compiled an 88-46 record with the Mavericks with back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2011 and 2012. He won two conference titles and was named Coach of the Year in 2012-13.

“We are excited to have him on board,” Hopewell Athletic Director Brian Bourque said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, not only to the baseball program but in the classroom as well.”

Sherman’s 2019 team went 11-12 this spring, finishing fourth in the I-Meck 4A standings. In his two seasons, the Titans went 22-25.
