Pine lake prep bright star

Pine Lake Prep's production of "Bright Star" received several Blumey Award nominations, including Wells Fargo Best Musical. 

Productions by Hough High School and Pine Lake Prep have been nominated for the local High School Musical Theater Awards, known as the Blumey Awards.

Winners will be announced in a ceremony May 19 at Charlotte’s Belk Theater.

The ceremony will feature a performance by the six nominated schools in the best musical category, a medley of performances by the six finalists for Best Actor and Best Actress, and an opening and closing number that features two students from each of the 48 participating schools.

Best Supporting Actress: Amanda Foss, “Bright Star”

Best Supporting Actor: J.T. Sutek, “Bright Star”

Best Costume Creation: Pine Lake Prep, “Bright Star”

Best Choreography Execution: Pine Lake Prep, “Bright Star”

Best Ensemble/Chorus: Pine Lake Prep, “Bright Star”

Best Overall Direction: Pine Lake Prep, “Bright Star”

Best Student Orchestra: Hough, “Fiddler on the Roof”

Hough's Martin lands Morehead-Cain

Hough High School student McKenzie Elizabeth Martin has been awarded the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, the top academic award at UNC-Chapel Hill.

She is president of Hough chapter of the marketing and entrepreneurship organization DECA. Under her leadership, the team was a top-20 finalist at an international competition in marketing management.

She is interested in studying business, marketing and advertising. Martin is the daughter of Cammie and Brian McHugh and Roger and Lisa Martin of Davidson.
