Hough grad now Wake coach

Former Hough and Mississippi soccer player Marnie Merritt has been named an assistant coach for the women’s team at Wake Forest University.

She joins the staff of Tony Da Luz, who has coached 21 seasons in Winston-Salem. The 2018 team went 9-9-2 and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Merritt ended her career as a goalkeeper last fall ranking second all-time at Ole Miss in career shutouts, saves and wins.

At Hough, the Huntersville native was an All-American in 2013 and was All-State in 2012 and 2013, when the Huskies reached the state finals.
