CORNELIUS – The Hough boys basketball team won 60-59 against Lake Norman Jan. 4 behind a 3-point shot from Nathan Chambers.

The Huskies led 30-22 at halftime, but trailed entering the fourth quarter following hot shooting from Lake Norman’s Zane Haglan and Grey Welsh.

With just over a minute to play, Hough’s Graham Worland grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on the put-back to cut the score to one. Then, following a free throw by Wildcat guard Zach Schulz, Chambers hit a 3 from just right of the top of the key with 5 seconds remaining.

Hough then forced Haglan into the corner after he crossed half-court, and the Lake Norman guard lost the ball out of bounds as time expired.

Worland, a 6-foot-4 freshman, led the Huskies with 18 points. Sophomore Nick Shryock scored 15 and sharp-shooting junior Jackson Bissette had 8.

The win pushed the Huskies over .500 as they entered a Jan. 8 matchup against North Mecklenburg.
