The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the the Lake Norman area until 5 p.m.
“Isolated severe thunderstorms capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts and isolated brief tornadoes will be possible,” the weather service said in a bulletin. “Localized excessive rainfall may cause flash flooding of small streams and urban areas.”
Storms are most likely in the late morning and early afternoon.
There is a 90 percent chance of rain and storms today, with wind gusts as high as 30 mph possible.
