Elizabeth Harrison is performing at Davidson College Presbyterian Church Monday, Sept. 17

DAVIDSON – Dr. Elizabeth Harrison kicks off Organ at Davidson’s 13th series season Sept. 17 with a program titled “Around Bach.”  It features music by Boehm, Buxtehude, Walter, Krebs and Bach.

Harrison will start on the small tracker organ in Lingle Chapel and move into the sanctuary of Davidson College Presbyterian Church (DCPC), home to the Wicks organ.

All Organ at Davidson events begin at 7:30 p.m. at DCPC, 100 N. Main St., and are open to the public. A meet-the-artist reception by Friends of the Organ follows the program. Performances are free with donations accepted.

 

Harrison coordinates the music program and is a professor of music at Pfeiffer University as well as director of music at Christ Episcopal Church in Albemarle. 

A board member for several American Guild of Organist chapters, she currently serves on the Charlotte Chapter of AGO board.

 

Gethsemane Baptist Church celebrates homecoming 

DAVIDSON – Gethsemane Baptist Church will hold its Homecoming service Sunday, Sept. 9.

The worship service, with guest minister Pastor James E. White, is at 10:15 a.m. A meal will be served following.

White is from New Life Family Church is in Spartanburg, S.C. Gethsemane, 565 Jetton St., is led by Pastor Ernest E. Jeffries and Lady Terry Jeffries.

 

Women’s group starting at HPC

HUNTERSVILLE – The Women’s Circle group at Huntersville Presbyterian Church starts Monday, Sept. 10.

The group meets monthly, and participants invite all women to gather as they begin planning fellowship, Bible study, mission projects and more.

Women’s Circle meets at 10:30 a.m. for an hour in the church’s room 202. This year’s Bible study was written by the Rev. Amy Sutherlun and is titled “God’s Promise: I Am With You.” 

The books are available for pickup from the church office.

Huntersville Presbyterian is at 201 S. Old Statesville Road.
