MASPETH, N.Y. – Nicholas Mencaroni, 40, formerly of Cornelius, died Jan. 25, 2019, at Elmhurst Hospital in New York.

He was born Oct. 2, 1978, in College Point, NY., to Gino P. Mencaroni Jr. and Patricia Mencaroni.

Survivors include his parents; brother, Gino P. Mencaroni III; and sister, Dawn Sabogal.

Services were held Jan. 31 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

Sue Correll Rohen

HUNTERSVILLE – Sue Correll Rohen, 83, died Jan. 24, 2019.

She was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Charlotte to the late Council C. and Virginia Weddle Correll.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Opera Carolina, Gaskin Eye Clinic and Prichard Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Webb McConnell; and sisters, Nancy Correll Edwards and Virginia Lee Correll.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; sisters, Margaret Luther and husband, Ben; stepchildren, Margaret Whitney and husband, David, Debra Slaughter and husband, Gary; and daughter-in-law, Susie McConnell.

Services were held Feb. 2 at Christ Lutheran Church in Concord.

Melba Louise Unitis

HUNTERSVILLE – Melba Louise Unitis, 87, died Jan. 23, 2019, at Huntersville Oaks.

She was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Cherokee, Iowa, to the late Madeline Harrelson (Kern) McCaslin and Ethred B. Kern.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kern.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Richard Unitis Sr.; sons, Alexander Edward Unitis II and wife, Lynn, Jeffrey Stevens Unitis and wife, Karen, Edward Richard Unitis Jr. and wife, Chellie, of Huntersville; daughter, LeeAnn Goggans of Huntersville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held privately.

Roseann Held

HUNTERSVILLE – Roseann Held, 60, died Jan. 22, 2019, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.

She was born June 30, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Thomas Mascio and the late Jennifer (Serafino) Mascio.​

She worked as a bookkeeper at several companies.

Survivors include her father; husband, Jim; sons, Christopher and wife, Melissa, and Steven and wife, Whitney, granddaughters, Tatum and Tenley, sister, Mildred Detwiler, brother Camillo Mascio; sister-in-law, Jeannie Lavallee and husband, Steve; brother in law, John Held and wife, Eileen; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at a later date in Wildwood, N.J.​

John Woodley Wallace

HUNTERSVILLE – John Woodley Wallace, 92, died Jan. 21, 2019, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Huntersville to the late Matthew Brevard “Daddy Bub” Wallace and Alma Oehler Wallace.

He helped establish M.B. Wallace and Sons Dairy Farm.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Wallace, M. B. Wallace Jr. and Robert Wallace; and sisters, Henrietta Barnett and Jean W. Entrekin Abernathy.

Services were held Jan. 25 at James Funeral Home.

George Elwyn Francis

HUNTERSVILLE – George Elwyn Francis, 75, died Jan. 20, 2019, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

He was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Chicago to the late Thomas and Blodwyn Francis.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and son, John Kenneth.

Survivors include his wife, Adrienne Francis; daughter, Laura Elizabeth Taffet and husband, Robert, of Huntersville; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 29 at Salisbury National Cemetery.

John Raymond Anderson

HUNTERSVILLE – John Raymond Anderson, 87, died Jan. 19, 2019.

He was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Jackson County to the late Joe and Mabyl Anderson.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked at Craftsman Printing.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Anderson; sons, Gary Anderson and wife, Paula, of Huntersville, and Scott Anderson and wife, Cindy; daughter, Gaye Goad and husband; and seven grandchildren.

HUNTERSVILLE – Edgar Reid Sharar, 94, died Jan. 18, 2019.

He was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Mecklenburg County to Edgar and Sarah Sharar.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his spouses, Sara Louise Kidd Sharar and Odessa Sharar; daughter, Katrina; and grandchildren, Keely and Richard.

Survivors include his son, Monty Sharar and wife, Linda; daughter, Tamie Todd and husband, Jim, of Huntersville; siblings, Bain Sharar, Nancy Brown and Bill Sharar; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

HUNTERSVILLE – Donald Lee Munday, 83, died Jan. 18, 2019.

He was born Jan. 13, 1936, in Caldwell County to the late Kessler and Essie Munday.

He was a supervisor in the meat department of several grocery stores.

HUNTERSVILLE – William “Bill” Fite Auten, 85, died Jan. 17, 2019.

He was born July 3, 1933, in Mecklenburg County to the late Arthur and Hettie Auten.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as postmaster in Huntersville.

Survivors include his son, Bill Auten; daughter, Stephanie Lawson and husband, Greg; companion, Linda Fite; and two grandchildren.

Eugene Moore Anderson 

DAVIDSON – Eugene Moore Anderson Jr., 88, died Jan. 16, 2019.

He was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late Eugene Moore Anderson and Virginia Bomar Anderson.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, taught law in several states and worked for Barclays Bank.

Survivors include his brother, James Harrison Anderson and his “adopted family,” Jeff and Marcy Smith and their children.

CORNELIUS – Catherine Maloney Marriot, 83, died Jan. 15, 2019, in Huntersville.
