Thomas Lamar Whitley

CHARLOTTE – Thomas “Sam” Lamar Whitley, 86, died Oct. 9, 2018.

He was born April 4, 1932, in Union County to the late Sally Alexander Whitley and Lester J. Whitley.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Mason Whitley; son, Ronald Whitley; and two grandsons.

Services were held Oct. 13 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with interment at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

Margaret Hensley Jones

CORNELIUS – Margaret “Mickie” Hensley Jones, 71, died Oct. 7, 2018, at her home.

She was born March 20, 1947, in Mecklenburg County to the late Clarence and Nelle Hensley.

Survivors include her husband, Brice Jones; son, Kelly Pharr and wife, Summer, of Davidson; daughter, Wendy Speckman and husband, Damien, of Cornelius; siblings, Sandra Hensley, Linda Hensley and Charles Hensley; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 12 at Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Ethel Johnson Hoffman

HUNTERSVILLE – Ethel Johnson Hoffman, 96, died Oct. 7, 2018, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., to the late John and Adele Johnson.

Survivors include her sons, Mark G. Hoffman and David E. Hoffman.

Services were held in Glendale, Calif.

Ruby Frances Anderson

MOORESVILLE – Ruby Frances Auvil Anderson, 93, died Oct. 5, 2018, at Genesis Healthcare in Mooresville. 

She was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Elkin, W.Va., to the late Harry and Zora Marstiller Auvil. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Anderson; son, Dennis Janson; and daughter, Judy Carlson.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Grashuis and husband, Ray, Ernie Anderson and wife, Terry, and Roy Anderson and wife, Ronda; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

HUNTERSVILLE – Lillian Rose Riffman Keller, 91, died Oct. 5, 2018.

She was born April 15, 1927.

Jeffery Wayne Arnold

MOORESVILLE – Jeffery Wayne Arnold, 59, died Oct. 5, 2018, at his home.

He was born Nov. 4, 1958, in Rocky Mount to Elizabeth Arnold and the late Dennis Arnold.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked in the apparel business, real estate and automotive restoration.

Survivors include his mother; wife, Stephanie Dianna “Dee” Arnold; stepsons, Davis Jolly, Robert Jolly and wife, Tara; brothers, Ray Arnold, Gene Arnold and partner, Latonna Bowman; sister, Betty Jo Layne and husband, Scott; and in-laws, Robert and Janet Davis.

Services will be held at a later time.

Jace Kinley Thompson

CORNELIUS – Jace Kinley Thompson, 5, died Oct. 5, 2018.

He was born Jan. 15, 2013, to Jennifer and Eric Thompson.

Survivors include by his parents; brother, Blake Thompson; paternal grandparents, Richard and Kathie Thompson and Deebie Thompson; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Sharon Sanders.

Services were held Oct. 11 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle.

HUNTERSVILLE – James “Jim” Albert Bennett, 82, died Oct. 1, 2018.

He was born in Mitchell County to the late Walter and Loy DeVault Bennett.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked in the trucking industry.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; son, James A. Bennett II and wife, Suzie. of Huntersville; daughter, Angi B. Kornhauser; and three granddaughters.

Services were held Oct. 4 at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
