Bernard Michael Kennedy III

HUNTERSVILLE – Bernard Michael Kennedy III, 73, died Aug. 14, 2018, at his home.

He was born March 10, 1945, in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Bernard and Margaret Kennedy.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Schering Plough Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Marie Kennedy; son, Scott; daughter-in-law, Evelyn; daughter, Elizabeth Hill and husband, Matt; siblings, Barbara Kennedy and Deborah Kennedy; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 17 at James Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Michael and JoAnn Kennedy Charitable Education Fund to assist students at Christ the King Catholic High School, RSM Attn: David Winslow 300 S. Tryon St., Suite 1500, Charlotte, NC  28202.

Peggy Towell Orbison

MOORESVILLE – Peggy Towell Orbison, 85, died Aug. 13, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Iredell County to the late Etta Hobbs Towell and William N. Towell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Derrell Orbison; and 10 brothers and sisters. 

Survivors include her son, William E. “Petey” Orbison. 

Services were held Aug. 19 Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Wayne Kee Jung

CORNELIUS – Wayne Kee Jung, 52, died Aug. 12, 2018.

Nancy O. Merrifield

DAVIDSON – Nancy O. Merrifield, 87, died Aug. 11, 2018.

She was born in Westerly, R.I., to the late John R. and Grace Hilton Oppy.

She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the James A. Tuttle Library in Antrim, N.H.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Merrifield and wife, Patricia, and Jeffrey Merrifield and wife, Diana, of Davidson; and seven grandchildren.

No services were held.

HUNTERSVILLE – Ronald Schlenker, 78, died Aug. 11, 2018.

He was born March 27, 1940.

Bruce Lee Stewart

DAVIDSON – Bruce Lee Stewart, 67, died Aug. 11, 2018.

He was born Jan. 12, 1951 in San Francisco to the late Robert and Helen Stewart.

He worked as a software engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Stewart; daughters, Holly Stewart and husband, Ethan Giller, and Lauren-Kate Stewart of Davidson; brother, Christopher Stewart; and one granddaughter.

Services were held Aug. 15 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

Margaret Ann Goldsmith Rhoades

HUNTERSVILLE – Margaret Ann Goldsmith Rhoades, 81, died Aug. 10, 2018.

She was born in Havre, Mont., to the late Walter and Leona Legler Goldsmith. 

She taught music and elementary school.

Survivors include her husband John A. “Jack” Rhoades; sons, John Rhoades and wife, Karen,  and Danny Rhoades and wife, Krista; daughters, Lori Daugherty and husband, Sean, and Tammy Rhoades-Baldwin and husband, Jim of Huntersville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 13 in the chapel of James Funeral Home.

Mary Thomas McArthur

CORNELIUS – Beulah Mary Thomas McArthur, 88, died Aug. 8, 2018.

She was born July 3, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., to the late Ira Thomas and Mary Radigan Thomas.

She worked as a registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brother, Patrick Thomas; daughter, Ann Marie; and a grandson.

Survivors include her son, Richard Charles McArthur of Cornelius; brother, Tom and wife, Rita Thomas; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; sister-in-law, Margaret Thomas; three grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. 

Services were held Aug. 12 at the James Funeral Home chapel.
