Marlene H. Jones

HUNTERSVILLE – Marlene H. Jones, 81, died May 20, 2018, at the Serenity House.

She was born April 28, 1937, in Mitchell County, Ga., to the late Otis and Maggie Harrell.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Jones; daughter, Sheila Maddox and husband, Steve, of Huntersville; brother, Rodney Harrell; and three grandchildren.

Services were held May 23 at Northlake Memorial Gardens.

Ida Belk Jones

HUNTERSVILLE – Ida Belk Jones, 97, died May 19, 2018, at her home.

She was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Huntersville to the late Charlie and Nancy Belk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include her son, Eddie Jones and wife, Nancy; sisters, Sarah Jones, Georgia Miller, Decie Davis and Pat Cagle; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 22 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

Winsor Schmidt

DAVIDSON – Winsor Schmidt Jr., 69, died May 18, 2018, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

He was born March 28, 1949.

Dorothy A. Busen

HUNTERSVILLE – Dorothy A. Busen, 84, died May 18, 2018, at Levine-Dickson Hospice House.

She was born Aug. 6, 1933, in McKittrick, Mo., to the late Bertha (Patton) Schmidt and Albert Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by a brother Marvin Schmidt; sisters, Darlene Kattelmann and Irma Stiers; and son-in-law, Gaylord “Jack” J. Perry.

Survivors include her husband, Frank “Gene” E. Busen; son, Jeffrey Busen; daughters, Lori Leighton and husband, Jay, and Judith Perry of Cornelius.

No services were held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville or another charity of choice.

Lena Knox Ferrell

CORNELIUS – Lena Knox Ferrell, 96, died May 18, 2018, at her son’s home in Seneca, S.C.

She was born March 14, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Will and Bess Knox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Ferrell; sisters, Louise Brown and husband, Vinson, Pauline Brown and husband, Paul, and Emma Alexander and husband, Jones; and brother, Edward Graham Knox.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne Ferrell and wife, Donna, and Ronnie Knox Ferrell and wife, Kathleen; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 21 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery.

William Estes

HUNTERSVILLE – William Estes, 85, died May 17, 2018, at his home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1932, to the late George and Mildred Estes.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Halbleib and husband, Jim, and Patti Reames and husband, Thad, of Huntersville; brother, George Este; and one granddaughter.

Services were held May 19 at Forest Lawn West.

Barbara Elaine Zukauskas

CORNELIUS – Barbara Elaine Zukauskas, 58, died May 17, 2018.

She was born to Dolores and the late Bill Pollen.

Survivors include her mother; sons, Nick and Alex, sister, Lisa; brothers, Brad and Tom; and her partner, Frank Joseph.

Robert Edwin Oliphant

MOORESVILLE – Robert “Bob” Edwin Oliphant, 90, died May 17, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born May 13, 1928, in Iredell County to the late John “Jack” Oliphant and Lucy Galliher Oliphant. 

He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Burlington Industries.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Knox; and brothers, Harold and Jackie Oliphant.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Oliphant; children, Janet Pope and husband, Steve, Randy Oliphant and wife, Jody, and Joy Stegall and husband, Bob; sisters, Lorene Shinn and Virginia Follette; brothers, Wayne and Gary Oliphant; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held May 19 at Iredell Memorial Park and May 20 at Mooresville ARP Church.
