Richard Lee Carroll 

CORNELIUS – Richard Lee Carroll, 79, died May 27, 2018.

He was born June 11, 1938, in Camden, N.J., to the late John Raymond Carroll and Miriam McCormick Carroll.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and worked at many golf courses in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Williams Carroll; daughters, Tracy Biittig and husband, Jeff, and Donna Lindner; son, Bryan Carroll and wife, Pauline, of Huntersville; brother, Raymond Carroll and wife, Sue; sisters, Joyce Capriotti and husband, Arnold, and Linda Haigh and husband, Bob; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held June 9 at Davidson United Methodist Church.

Jeannine Brown Lockwood

CORNELIUS – Jeannine Brown Lockwood, 89, died May 27, 2018, 

She was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas, to the late Joe and Thelma Legg Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Arthur Lockwood; daughter, Vicki Pugh; and brother, JoeBen Brown.

Survivors include her daughter, Nanette Lockwood of Cornelius; son, Joe Lockwood and wife Laura; sister, Prudence Gaudion; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later time.

Edward Kuhl

GREENSBORO – Edward “Neil” Kuhl, 74, died May 26, 2018, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

He was born April 11, 1944, in Elkins, W.Va., to the late Rufus Christian and Bonnie Long Kuhl.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and retired from AT&T.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Kuhl, and grandson, Reed Kuhl.

Survivors include his wife, Regena “Jeanee” Mae Durham Kuhl; son, Brian Kuhl and wife, Heather, of Davidson; daughter, Amy Young and husband, Michael, of Davidson; sister, Phyllis Snelson; brothers, Ron and Kenna Kuhl; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at his daughter’s home in Davidson.

Margaret C. Schwenk

DENNISPORT, Mass. – Margaret C. Schwenk, 85, died May 25, 2018, in Cornelius.

She was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Marlboro, Mass., to the late Katherine and Francis Aho.

She worked as a real estate broker.

Survivors include her son, Rudy Schwenk and wife, Sandra; daughters, Robin Johnson and husband, Donald, Elaine Starks, Mary Ellen Blood and husband, Ted, of Cornelius, Debra Jeanne Osier and husband, Douglas, and Maureen Johnson; brother, Gerald Allen Aho and wife, Ruby; sister, Suzanne A. Bowman and husband, Dwight; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in Massachusetts.

Macie Plemmons Sheehan

HUNTERSVILLE – Macie Plemmons Sheehan, 89, died May 24, 2018, at Concord Place Assisted Living.

She was born to the late Lawrence James “L.J.” and Althea Plemmons.

She retired from Kroger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Melvin Sheehan; brother, Stewart; and sisters, Virgie, Drama, Lucille and Peggy.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca J. Sheehan and Phyllis Ferguson of Huntersville; son, Harry Melvin Sheehan Jr. of Huntersville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 26 at James Funeral Home.

Dorothy Gibson Gurley

DAVIDSON – Dorothy Gibson Gurley, 85, died May 23, 2018.

She was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Huntersville to the late Bigham and Mary Gibson.

She worked in the laundry department at Davidson College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gurley, and son, Tommy.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy Gurley and wife, Sherri; daughters, Linda Gurley of Davidson and Janet Harwell and husband, Eddie; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held May 25 at Hopewell Baptist Church.

Betty Lee Leavengood

DAVIDSON – Betty Lee Leavengood, 79, died May 23, 2018, at her home.

She was born Jan. 9, 1939, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to the late Arden and Gladys Reese Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leavengood.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Graham and Christine Graham; son, Rodney Graham and wife, Melissa of Davidson; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.
