Roy Taylor Fortner

HUNTERSVILLE – Roy Taylor Fortner, 95, died Sept. 18, 2018, at the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

He was born in Cabarrus County to the late James and Naomi Fortner.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and was the former owner of Huntersville Ford.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Alta Mae Baker Fortner and Doris Hook Fortner; and siblings, Clifford, Sloan, Judy, Paul, Lois and Ruby.

Survivors include his son, James Fortner; daughters, Myra Jane Skinner and Elissa Fortner Huffstetler; son-in-law, Chuck Huffstetler; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 25 at James Funeral Home.

Richard Gray Beaver

MOORESVILLE – Richard Gray Beaver, 80, died Sept. 15, 2018.

He was born July 17, 1938, in Mt. Ulla to the late Carl Everet Beaver and Annie Reid Lowrance Beaver.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold, and sister-in-law, Barbie Bolmer Whitener. 

Survivors include his wife, Pam Bolmer Beaver; children, Allen Robertson and wife, Sharon, Rodney Beaver and wife, Adriana, and Annie Heglar and husband, Dwayne; brother, Wallace Beaver and wife, Peggy; sister, Carol Wilson; brother-in-law, Bill Bolmer; sister-in-law, Sonja Beaver; brother-in-law, Chris Whitener; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

Services were held Sept. 18 at Prospect Presbyterian Church.

Calvin Dwight Farrar

HUNTERSVILLE – Calvin Dwight Farrar, 77, died Sept. 15, 2018.

He was born Jan. 14, 1941, in Gaston County to the late Walter and Lourd Brice Farrar.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Cook Farrar; children, Felicia Hill, Sherri Farrar, Bridgette Farrar Box and husband, Denard, Tara Farrar Brown and husband, Michael, and Calvin Drew Farrar; sisters, Martell Farrar and Gladys Anthony; brothers, Andrew Farrar and wife, Rose, and John Farrar and wife, Bernetta; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 22 at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Lingle Chapel.

Dorothy Goodrum Fidler

DAVIDSON – Dorothy Goodrum Fidler, 97, died Sept. 15, 2018.

She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Cornelius to the late Thomas L. Goodrum and Lilly Bolick Goodrum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Fidler; siblings, Louise Mayhew and Isa Goodrum of Cornelius, Joe Goodrum, Carl Goodrum of Cornelius and Emily Alice Caldwell.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held Sept. 19 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Mallory L. Liles

CORNELIUS – Mallory L. Liles Jr., 73, died Sept. 15, 2018.

He was born in Marlboro County, S.C., to the late Mallory and Mattie Liles.

He worked for Eastern Airlines and Duke Energy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Vickie Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Stubbs Liles; son, Tripp and wife, Laura; daughter, Jill Liles; sister, Phyllis Funderburk; and one grandson.

Services were held Sept. 22 at James Funeral Home.

CORNELIUS – Mary Telesca, 94, died Sept. 13, 2018, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.

She was born Jan. 18, 1924.

Services were held in Hicksville, N.Y.

HUNTERSVILLE – Donald R. Jordan, 71, died Sept. 9, 2018.

He was born Oct. 16, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to the late Richard and Jane Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances.

Survivors include his son, Jeff Jordan of Huntersville; daughter, Shari Jordan Newkirk and husband, Jared; siblings, Sandy Darne and husband, Ralph, and Barbara Snyder and husband, Bob; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 21 in the chapel of James Funeral Home.
