DAVIDSON – In the aftermath of a rash of recent reported car break-ins, police are urging residents to lock their cars and secure valuable items.
Since June 1, the Davidson Police Department has responded to several calls regarding breaking and entering or larceny from motor vehicles and four stolen vehicles.
The incidents occurred in the McConnell, Bradford and Davidson Landing neighborhoods. In each case, victims reported their vehicles were unlocked and/or keys were in the vehicles at the time of the thefts.
The department issued a reminder to residents to close and secure vehicles and garage doors and to keep valuables, including spare keys, out of sight or out of vehicles.
The department’s statement said these crimes are preventable when vehicles are locked and that a decrease in these crimes was evident in the first five months of 2019, a reduction attributed to citizens being more proactive.
The department is also asking residents with outdoor surveillance recordings with sidewalks or street views to view them. Images of suspicious individuals or activity in the early morning hours between June 1 and June 4, should be reported to Det. Jay Stokes at 704-892-5131 or 704-940-9633.
