Hough's Richard Treanor, at 106 pounds, dominated the 4A West regional.

MOORESVILLE – Hough is sending nine wrestlers to the 4A Individual State Championships, as the team finished third in the West Regional Saturday, Feb. 9.

Earning top-four finishes in their respective weight classes were: Richard Treanor (106 pounds, first), Giovany Muñoz (113, third), Jun Figueredo (120, third), Sam Westmoreland (126, first), Nick Pepe (132, third), Luke Kucko (152, third), Anthony Fabian (170, second), Collin Paradis (182, second) and Dominic Harris (220, fourth).

The state tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16 in the Greensboro Coliseum.

North Meck’s Mack, relay team medal

WINSTON-SALEM – With a long jump of 17-1.0, North Meck senior Alana Mack finished third in the 4A Indoor Track State Championships Saturday, Feb. 9.

Also with a bronze-medal finish at the JDL Fast Track was the Vikings’ 4X200-meter relay team of Trevin Moyer, Blaise Atkinson, Jalen Jones and Elijah Jones. Their time was 1 minute, 31.92 seconds.

Hough’s Chase Shanafelt, a senior, finished eighth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:37.06.

Hopewell sophomore Julian Gray was ninth in the 55-meter dash.

In the 1A/2A competition, Langston Samples of Community School of Davidson recorded top-10 finishes in three events. The senior finished fifth in the 55-meter dash in 6.85 seconds, was seventh in the triple jump at 40-09.5 and 10th in the 300-meter dash in 38.31 seconds.
