CHARLOTTE – The rezoning hearing for the proposed construction of a Novant Health hospital at Riverbend Village is scheduled to be held at the Charlotte City Council Monday, July 15.
The Novant facility, planned to be built between the Harris Teeter and yet-to-break-ground Courtyard by Marriott hotel, is projected to have 50 beds and associated medical office space but not a trauma center. A helicopter landing site would provide patient transport service to other facilities, according to Steve Swicegood of the Mountain Island Neighborhood Association.
Novant will be represented by Keith MacVean of the Moore & Van Allen law firm, who presented the plans at a public meeting in May. The 5.5-acre property would be rezoned from single-family residential to neighborhood services.
The next-closest hospitals are the CaroMont Health emergency room 5 miles away in Mount Holly and Novant Huntersville Medical Center 10 miles away. Atrium Health offers urgent care as well as several primary-care facilities on Coul Oak Drive on the other side of Brookshire Boulevard.
