Bicycle lanes will be added to N.C. 273, and Mount Holly wants residents to provide input on their impact.

MOUNT HOLLY – Since the the widening of N.C. 273 will include a 5-foot wide bicycle lane on each side, the City of Mount Holly is looking to identify how local bicycle users will be impacted.

Through partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation Bicycle & Pedestrian Division, the city is beginning to develop a Comprehensive Bicycle Plan. As the planning process evolves over the next year, the goal of the plan is to identify how bicycle users in and around Mount Holly are impacted and impacting Mount Holly.

This plan, referred to as Bike Mount Holly is a community-driven effort that will assess current bicycle conditions, identify ongoing needs, and recommend ways to make it safer and easier to bike in Mount Holly. 

The Project Steering Committee will be meeting on Nov. 13 to discuss the public

outreach results, existing conditions and next steps for the project.

The Bike Mount Holly survey is open until Nov 7. Current or past residents are encouraged to fill it out at

N.C. 273 will become a four-lane, median-divided roadway between Tuckaseege Road at Beatty Drive and Highland Street at A & E Drive. it is expected to be completed by January 2021.
