MOORESVILLE – Lake Norman won the opening game of the series against Hopewell, 4-3, Tuesday, April 9.
A two-run home run by senior outfielder Vance Anderson in the bottom of the third inning proved to be the deciding runs. Junior Carson Arnold and senior Gage Smith picked up the other RBIs for the Wildcats.
Senior Carter Sheppard recorded the win in a battle with Hopewell ace Tyler White.
Sheppard only allowed two hits and one earned run over 5 innings, picking up eight strikeouts.
Classmate Dylan Arment got the 2-inning save, striking out three and giving up one run.
The Wildcats improved to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in the I-Meck 4A, good for third place with one conference game remaining.
Local softball dominating I-Meck
MOORESVILLE – The Mooresville softball team avenged a loss to Lake Norman earlier this season by defeating the I-Meck 4A-leading Wildcats 14-3 Tuesday, April 9.
With the win, the host Blue Devils improved to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in league play. Lake Norman now sits at 15-4 and is 11-1 in the I-Meck. The next closest team behind the two local schools is Hough at 5-4.
Following Spring Break, the Blue Devils close the regular season at Mallard Creek, while the Wildcats host Vance Friday, April 12, and travel to Providence April 18 in its regular-season finale.
