While giving a man a ride from Statesville Monday, a couple pulled into the parking lot at Triplett United Methodist Church on Mazeppa Road, robbed the passenger at gunpoint then pushed him out of the car, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told deputies that he was riding in the back seat while Bethany Janine Gibson, 26, of Cleveland drove and Christopher Jordan Minier, 27, of the 1400 block of Mazeppa Drive, sat in the front passenger seat. When Gibson pulled into the church parking lot, Minier “quickly got out of the front passenger-side door, got into the back seat with the victim, took his money and pushed him out of the car,” according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Deputies later located the couple nearby on Mazeppa Drive and arrested them.
Minier was charged with felony common law robbery and given a $3,000 bond. Gibson was charged with felony aid and abet common law robbery and issued a $1,000 bond.
