MOORESVILLE – A Statesville woman was arrested Monday morning after leading officers on a chase from Mooresville to Cornelius, according to authorities.

Mariesha C. Currence, 20, is charged with motor vehicle theft, felony possession of a Schedule II drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony speeding to elude arrest and driving with revoked license.

According to the Mooresville Police Department, officers attempted to stop a vehicle at 1:53 a.m. on Brawley School Road near Interstate 77 in Mooresville. The driver did not stop, and officers pursued the vehicle on Brawley School Road, then Williamson Road and then south on I-77 to Exit 28 in Cornelius. The vehicle traveled west on Catawba Avenue then onto Torrence Chapel Road, where the driver exited the vehicle and ran.

“A perimeter was set by several law enforcement agencies,” according to a press release.

Currence was found at a nearby motel. She was given a $17,000 secured bond.
