Gavin Sharpe, 15, had begun practicing with his Mooresville teammates before his death Aug. 5.

A page has been created to raise money for the family of Gavin Sharpe, the 15-year-old Mooresville High School student and football player who died Aug. 5.

Sharpe fell from the back of a pickup truck Aug. 3 while working on a service project on the high school’s Magnolia Campus, according to the Mooresville Graded School District. He died Monday from his injuries.

Eric Davis, who created the fundraising page, said Sharpe was “an aspiring preacher.”

“Gavin Sharpe fulfilled his purpose much more quickly than anyone could have imagined,” Davis wrote. “He touched many lives, put smiles on a lot of faces, shared love generously, showed a community how to live, and brought people to Christ.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, the page had raised $3,300 toward a goal of $30,000.

The Mooresville Police Department said it was investigating the accident.
