Lake Norman at Vance girls

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Breakdown: The Lake Norman girls came out of winter break with two blowout victories. The Wildcats beat Hough on the road 60-36 Jan. 4 then stymied Community School of Davidson Jan. 7, winning 50-19. Junior Lauren Sullivan accounted for 29 of the Wildcats’ 60 against Hough, then senior Candis Dancy had a season-high 15 against CSD. Vance will be a different animal, however, as the Cougars are 13-1 and undefeated in I-Meck 4A play. The Cougars have seven players averaging between five and 12 points, and defeated Mooresville by 40 Jan. 4.

Pine Lake Prep at Union Academy boys

Pine Lake Prep Doroodchi

Meelad Doroodchi and Pine Lake Prep will take on Union Academy Friday, Jan. 11.

Time: 7 p.m.

Breakdown: Pine Lake opened 2019 with a 75-65 win over Langtree Charter, the first game after a two-point victory over Lake Norman. Following an out-of-conference tilt Jan. 9 against Christ the King, the 6-4 Pride dive back into PAC 7 play and visit 10-2 Union Academy. The Cardinals also got off to a 1-1 start to league play and have wins over Union County foes Piedmont, Cuthbertson, and two over Central Academy of Technology and Arts. Union is balanced, with three plays averaging between 12 and 16 points. After scoring only 16 combined against South Iredell and Lake Norman, Pine Lake’s DeMarcus Johnson had 25 against Langtree Charter.

Hopewell at Mooresville boys

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Breakdown: Following a visit from Page High School from Greensboro, the Titans travel to Mooresville for a matchup between two teams teetering on the .500 mark. A loss to North Meck Jan. 4 dropped Hopewell to 6-5, while Mooresville’s five-game winning streak was followed by two losses, making the Blue Devils record 5-7. Titan seniors Brice Williams and Alvin Cannady are the high-scorers for coach Michael McNeil’s team, with 19.2 and 13.3, respectively. Both players should also have a height advantage over the Blue Devils, whose tallest player is 6-3 sophomore Lamont Thornton. Look for lots ball pressure from Mooresville to force the Titans to turn the ball over.
