The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education has called an “emergency” meeting for 1 p.m. Thursday to “discuss the contingency plan” for operating schools May 1, when a large number of teachers take the day off to attend an education rally in Raleigh.

ISS announced this week that it would remain open May 1. Classes were canceled for a day last May when many ISS teachers attended a similar event.

The Mooresville Graded School District announced last week that May 1 would be an optional teacher workday, with no classes for students.

Thursday’s meeting, which will be open to the public, will be at the ADR Education Center, 410 Garfield St., Statesville.
