RALEIGH – The Langtree Charter Academy high school cheer team won its division in the N.C. High School Association Cheerleading Invitational Dec. 1.
In the large Junior Varsity Non-Tumble D2, Langtree scored 52.3 points, 3 ahead of second-place West Columbus. This is the first-ever state championship of any kind for the school.
“We are so very proud of the girls, like many of our sports teams, they work so hard every day to improve their craft,” Athletic Director Steve Treffiletti wrote in a statement.
In the same competition, Lake Norman High finished second in the Small Varsity D1-B division, just 1.7 points behind first-place Heritage High, out of Wake Forest.
Wildcats defeat South Iredell
TROUTMAN – The Lake Norman boys basketball team beat South Iredell 69-52 Friday, Nov. 30.
The Wildcats, now 2-0 on the season, got 24 points from senior guard Zane Haglan. He made three of his eight 3-point attempts.
Junior Dominic Adams scored 12 on 6-of-9 shooting and had a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Zach Schulz had 9 points on 4-of-12 shooting as well as five rebounds and four steals.
Lake Norman goes 3-2 in Duals
MOORESVILLE – Hosting the annual Lake Norman Duals, the Lake Norman wrestling team went 3-2 Dec. 1.
The Wildcats got wins over Union Pines, 45-31; St. Thomas (Texas), 48-36; and Indian Land (S.C.), 39-37. They lost to Christiansburg (Va.), 58-24, and Wyoming Seminary (Pa.), the tournament champion, 46-31.
Mooresville went 3-1, with Tyree Westmoreland winning his 100th career match.
Lake Norman’s Nate Dugan, who wrestles at 195 pounds, was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Blue Devils lose tight game
CONCORD – The Mooresville boys basketball team lost 66-64 to Jay M Robinson Dec. 4.
The Blue Devils will look to pick up their first victory against Davie County Friday, Dec. 7.
