BUILD grant

Deputy Town Manager Ryan Rase points out a section on the map of the proposed East-West Connector Road. He and Deputy Town Manager Angel Wright-Lanier, right, have spearheaded attempting to get the road funded by a BUILD grant.

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners on Friday appointed Assistant Town Manager Ryan Rase as acting town manager.

The move came during commissioners’ agenda briefing in preparation for their regular Monday.

Town Manager David Treme announced earlier this week that he would be unable to fulfill his duties for the next two weeks due to medical reasons. Treme and the town did not disclose the medical issue.

Rase came to Mooresville in 2008 as engineering manager. In 2011, he was named executive director for public services and operations before being promoted deputy town manager in 2012. That position was reclassified this past January to assistant town manager.

Treme abruptly announced his retirement Feb. 18 following a two-hour closed session of town board members.

The town revealed days later that Treme also told the board that same day that he would be unable to work for two weeks due to health issues.

The board’s meeting Monday will be at 6 p.m. at Mooresville Town Hall, 413 N. Main St. The meeting will open with a public comment period for anyone wishing to address the board. Information is at www.ci.mooresville.nc.us.
