Flake Joel Childers 

MOORESVILLE – Flake Joel Childers, 90, died March 31, 2019, at his home.

He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Iredell County to the late Ira and Minnie Childers.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the Rangers, and retired as a truck driver for Johnson Motor Liners.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lowe Childers; brothers, Donald, Emanuel, Marvin “Toad” and Cecil Childers; sisters, Betty Robinson, Blanch Albright and Ann Lee; and a grandson, Jason Mills.

Survivors include his children, Karen Mills and husband, Ed, and Mike Childers and wife, Ann, all of Mooresville; brother, Jack Childers and wife, Bea, of Mooresville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 2 at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church.

Dolores Irene Morrow

MOORESVILLE – Dolores Irene Morrow, 88, died March 29, 2019, at Accordius Health.

She was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Erie, Pa., to the late Henry and Marie Kapella Schneider.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Morrow, and an infant granddaughter, Bryn Elizabeth McGee.

Survivors include her children, Thomas Morrow and wife, Kathy, Laurie McGee and husband, Michael, of Mooresville, and John Morrow and wife, Peggy, of Mooresville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

There will be no services at this time.

Garry Lee Hill

MOORESVILLE – Garry Lee Hill, 65, died March 29, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Halifax County, Va., to Bobby Lee Hill and Barbara Heffner Hill.

He was an artist and owner of Garry Hill Automotive Fine Art.

Survivors include his parents; wife, Pamela Pearson Hill; children, Austin Lee Hill and wife, Morgan, Cameron Alice Hill and partner, Brad Buskirk; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 3 - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, followed by a service at 5 p.m.

MOORESVILLE – Jack Arno Wettengel, 75, died March 27, 2019.

He was born Sept. 12, 1943.

Paul Joe Cannon

MOORESVILLE – Paul Joe Cannon, 83, died March 26, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born Feb. 26, 1936 in Granite Falls to the late Earl and Josie Bean Cannon.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was owner and operator of Cannon’s Upholstery.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Earl “Buddy” Cannon Jr., Gene Cannon and Ted Cannon.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” McCoy Cannon; children, Paul “Spunky” Cannon Jr., Pam Cannon and Kim Cannon and husband, Scott; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services were held March 31 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

MOORESVILLE – Margie “Polly” Kate Upright, 92, died March 24, 2019.

She was born March 17, 1927.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Samuel Upright; sister, “Toad” Lawing; two brothers; and a son, Curtis Samuel Upright.

Survivors include her daughters, Doris Driggers and husband, Thomas, Shirley Childers of Mooresville and Pat Childers.

Services were held March 29 at Ingram Funeral Home.

John Arthur Walker

MOORESVILLE – John Arthur Walker, 92, died March 22, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Charlotte to the late Charles Percival and Clara Bell Walker.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired as an insurance agent.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Charlotte Small Walker, Mary Jane Walker and Alice Banner Walker; son, John A. Walker Jr.; brother, William Walker; and sister, Dorothy Diggle.

Survivors include his children, Marilyn Allison and husband, Tyler, Gordon Walker of Mooresville; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held March 30 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

MOORESVILLE – Richard “Kent” Sellers, 53, died March 18, 2019.

He was born Sept. 22, 1965, in Cabarrus County to the late John Richard Sellers and Margie Rae Harrington Sellers.

He worked for A4 Wealth Advisers.

Survivors include his sister, Lara Sellers and spouse, Aleta; brother, Jonathan Sellers; and grandmother, Janelle Harrington.

Services were held March 23 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.
