MOORESVILLE – Mary “Elaine” Davis Smith, 69, died Feb. 6, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

She was born Jan. 11, 1950, in Concord to the late Arthur Davis and Mary Collins Long.

She was a retired seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Dale Smith, and son, James Douglas Smith.

Survivors include her children, Shanna Cherry and husband, Chris, and Roger Dale Smith Jr. and wife, Pam; brother, Jerry Davis; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 10 at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel.

Robert Lea Harm

MOORESVILLE – Robert “Bob” Lea Harm, 95, died Feb. 5, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Warren, Ohio, to the late George and Margarie Harm.

He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his sister.

Survivors include his wife, Constance “Connie” Lynch Lyon; stepson, Skip Lyon and wife, Christina; and one step-grandson.

Services were held Feb. 9 at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel.

Barbara Millsaps Murdock

MOORESVILLE – Barbara Millsaps Murdock, 72, died Feb. 1, 2019, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

She was born June 22, 1946, in Mooresville to the late Clyde C. Millsaps and Martha Sloop Millsaps.

She was the office manager for Public Service Gas Company.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Murdock; daughters, Karen Denise Murdock and Kristen M. Carter and husband, Jesse; sister, Carol M. Sloop; brothers, Clyde “Buddy” Millsaps and wife, Yolanda, and Daniel Charles Millsaps; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 4 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Feb. 5 at Triplett United Methodist Church.

David Kent Grandt

MOORESVILLE – David “Hippie” Kent Grandt, 63, died Jan. 31, 2019.

He was born Oct. 3, 1955, in Okinawa, Japan, to the late Carl and Helen NusSelle Grandt.

He worked for Martin Marietta Aggregates in Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie; and brothers, Carl, Kris and James.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Whitson Grandt; sons, David K. Grandt II and Tyler Grandt; brother, Gary Grandt; sisters, Kathy Hollis, Kay Jappinga and Karen Grimes; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 2 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Jacqueline Baldwin Vanderzanden

MOORESVILLE – Jacqueline Baldwin Vanderzanden, 63, died Jan. 29, 2019, at her residence.

She was born May 13, 1955, in Meadville, Pa., to Evelyn Petri and the late David H. Baldwin.

She was a master Reiki practitioner.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Trudy Baldwin.

Survivors include her mother; husband, Steven Vanderzanden; daughters, Sarah Carver and partner, Thomas Davis, Michelle Vanderzanden and Rachel Carver; sisters, Cindy Schrum and husband, Ted, and Melinda Pashea and husband, Paul; brothers, David Baldwin and wife, Nancy, and Grant Baldwin; stepmother, Kathy Stewart Baldwin; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home chapel.

Harry O’Neil Brotherton 

MOORESVILLE – Harry O’Neil Brotherton, 94, died Jan. 27, 2019, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Lincoln County to the late Marvin Haywood Brotherton and Hattie Howard Brotherton.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Jean Clontz Brotherton; brothers, Kenneth, Gilbert, Troy and Curtis; and sisters, Peggy Brotherton and Vaughn Dean Riddle.

Survivors include his sons, Neil Brotherton Jr. and wife, Deb, Eddie Brotherton and wife, Patty, Doug Brotherton and wife, Sherrie, and Tim Brotherton and wife, Caroline; brother, Vernon Brotherton; sister, Opal Burgin; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 29 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Jan. 30 at Fair View United Methodist Church.
