MOORESVILLE – Ruth Marie Smith, 93, died May 24, 2019, at The Laurels of Salisbury.

She was born March 5, 1926, in Nanticoke, Pa., to the late Russell and Viola Uren Van Fossen.

She volunteered at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Carratello and husband, Mickey; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 28 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Hubert Edward Nelson Jr.

MOORESVILLE – Hubert Edward Nelson Jr., 85, died May 23, 2019, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Greensboro to the late Hubert E. Nelson and Lula Belle Boliek Nelson.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Duke Power as superintendent of engineering, operations and construction.

Survivors include his wife, Althea; sons, Dale and wife, Sandra, and Ron and wife, Lisa; brother, Samuel Leo Nelson and wife, Ada; and three granddaughters.

Services were held May 26 at First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville.

George John Eckart

MOORESVILLE – George John Eckart, 78, died May 22, 2019, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 3, 1940.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked as an engineer with General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Moore Eckart; children, Susan Ward and husband, Ralph, George Eckart and wife, Kristin, Karen Foltin and husband, Craig, Douglas Eckart of Mooresville and Robert Eckart and wife, Karen; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Salisbury.

Phyllis Anders Starnes

MOORESVILLE – Phyllis Anders Starnes, 63, died May 21, 2019, at Genesis Healthcare in Mooresville.

She was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Mooresville to the late Ernest and Eursly Ervin Anders.

She was secretary of the ladies’ ministries and a Sunday school teacher at Mt. Mourne Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lee Starnes.

Survivors include her sister, Velva Oxendine; brothers, Dean Anders, Jackie Anders and wife, Connie, and Brent Anders.

Services were held May 23 at Mt. Mourne Church of God.

Harry Allen Wilson Jr.

MOORESVILLE – Harry Allen Wilson Jr., 76, died May 21, 2019.

He was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Paris Ill., to the late Harry and Emily Louise Wilson.

He served in the Army National Guard and retired from working for AT&T.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey; son, Mike Wilson and wife, Charlotte, Jimmy Wilson and wife, April, of Mooresville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services were held May 28 in Florida.

Peter Ibbitt Marriott

MOORESVILLE – Peter Ibbitt Marriott, 73, died May 21, 2019.

He was born Nov. 4, 1945, in Essex, N.J., to the late William Julius Marriott and Ruth Edgar Marriott.

He worked as a real estate agent.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wendy Marriott, and daughter, Erica White.

Survivors include his children, Pete Marriott and wife, Jessica, Chris Marriott and wife, Amy, Stephanie O’Keefe and husband, Tom, and Nicole Huren and husband, Rob; brother, David; sisters, Beth and Robin; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.
