Cecil Franklin Childers

CLEVELAND – Cecil Franklin Childers, 92, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018.

He was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Rowan County to the late Ira and Minnie Childers.

Childers was served in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from Burlington Industries.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Perry Childers; brothers, Emmanuel, Marvin “Toad” and Don Childers; and sisters, Ann Lee, Blanche Allbright and Betty Roberson.

Survivors include his son, Marty Childers and wife, Susan Dorton Childers; brothers, Flake and Jack Childers; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson, Dex Rehn.

Services were held Oct. 25 at Triplett United Methodist Church, Mooresville.

William "Bill" Haire 

MOORESVILLE – William “Bill” Ervin Haire, 92, did Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Rowan County to the late Odell Moses and Nellie Sherrill Haire.

Haire was a retired U.S. Navy WWII veteran, having served in the Korean War and Vietnam. Haire also retired with the U.S. Post Office.

He was preceded in death by brother, Conrad O. Haire; sisters, Mary Martha Oliphant and Margaret Troutman; and half-sister, Mae Waggoner.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Johnson Haire; children, Donna McConnell and husband, Norris, William “Billy” Haire Jr. and Cathy Mayfield and Wendell Haire and wife, Susan all of Mooresville; sister, Patsy Meadows and husband, Franklin of Mooresville; and six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 23 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home followed by burial at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.

Alda Ellen Stutts

MOORESVILLE – Alda Parker Stutts, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Levine-Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville.

She was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Iredell County to the late Charlie Lee Parker and Nancy Lambert Parker.

Stutts was a homemaker and member of Berea Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell S. Stutts; brothers, Hubert, Buren, Lewis and David Parker; sisters, Lorene P. Baxter, Winnie P. Campbell, Inez P. Kistler, Nellie P. Lackey and Callie P. Williams.

Survivors include her children, Steve Stutts and wife, Mary, Tommy Stutts and wife, Vickie, and Ann Haire and husband, Dewayne; and a granddaughter.

Services were held Oct. 16 at Berea Baptist Church.

Michael Jack Holcomb

MOORESVILLE – Michael “Mike” Jack Holcomb, 67, died Oct. 13, 2018, in Chambersburg, Pa.

He was born Sept. 18, 1951, in Winston-Salem to the late Elice Jackson Holcomb and Dorothy Mae Billings Holcomb.

He was a supervisor for Duke Power Company. He retired from the Mooresville Fire Department in 2007. He was also a retired captain from the South Carolina National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Ann Sewell Holcomb; daughters, Lesley Holcomb Wilson and husband, David, and Mary Nicole “Nikki” Holcomb and husband, Heath McLaurin; brother, Andy Holcomb and wife, Jenny; sisters, Becki Davidson and husband, Mitchell and Janet Matthews; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 17 at First Baptist Church Mooresville. Burial followed in Willow Valley Cemetery.

Joann Pitman

MOORESVILLE – Joann Pruitt Pitman, 81, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

She was born on May 1, 1937, in Mooresville to the late Joseph and Ethel Barrier Pruitt. Survivors include her husband, Phil Clayton Pitman; son, Rex Pitman and wife, Maudie; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 9 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed the service at Iredell Memorial Park in Statesville.

Ruby Frances Anderson

MOORESVILLE – Ruby Frances Auvil Anderson, 93, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at Genesis Healthcare in Mooresville.

She was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Elkin, W.Va., to the late Harry and Zora Marstiller Auvil.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Anderson; son, Dennis Janson; and daughter, Judy Carlson.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Grashuis and husband, Ray, Ernie Anderson and wife, Terry and Roy Anderson and wife, Ronda; and four grandchildren.

Walter Alfred Stutts

MOORESVILLE – Walter Alfred Stutts, 88, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Mooresville, to the late Hugh and Margaret McNeely Stutts.

He was preceded in death by sister, Louise Cook; and brothers, Joe, Lewis and Alvin Stutts.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Pitts Stutts; children, Richard “Ricky” Stutts and fiancée, TJ Moore, and Kathy Bradshaw and husband, Tim; brother, Robert Stutts; sisters, Jean Brown, Shirley Poole; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Services were held Oct. 10 at Whitman Park Baptist Church. Burial followed at Glenwood Memorial Park.

Jeffrey Wayne Arnold

MOORESVILLE – Jeffery Wayne Arnold, 59, died Oct. 5, 2018, at his home in The Point at Lake Norman.

He served in the U.S. Navy, had an apparel business and was active in developing real estate.

He was predeceased by his father, Dennis Arnold, and sister, Vickie Atkins.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Dianna (Dee) Arnold; stepsons, Davis Jolly and Robert Jolly and wife, Tara; mother, Elizabeth Arnold; brothers, Ray Arnold and Gene Arnold and partner, Latonna Bowman; sister, Betty Jo Layne and husband, Scott; and in-laws Robert and Janet Davis.

MOORESVILLE – Garland Keith “Sonny” Rachels, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.

He was born April 27, 1938, in Lloyd, Fla.

He worked in industrial water treatment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Singleton and Earl K. Singleton Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Roberts Rachels; children, Gayle Rachels and Denise Rachels Short and husband, Patrick; brother, Earl Singleton and wife, Brenda; sister-in-law, Judy Heyer and husband, Jim; and four grandchildren.

Frank Anthony Buklarewicz

MOORESVILLE – Francis “Frank” Anthony Buklarewicz, 84, of Mooresville, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late Joseph and Helen Rutkowski Buklarewicz.

Buklarewicz was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the chemical industry.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph and twin brother, Stanley Buklarewicz; and sister, Mae Kosakowski.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Adamczyk Buklarewicz; daughters, Monica Hahn and husband, Tom, Adria Epley and husband, Rick, Debbie Buczynski and husband, John, and Paula Wood and husband, David; sisters-in-law, Joan Buklarewicz, Marie Centro; brother-in-law, Bruno Kosakowski; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville.

Phyllis Joanne Murphy

MOORESVILLE – Phyllis Ackerman Murphy, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at The Summit Place in Mooresville.

She was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Cambridge, Minn., to the late Carl and Edla Swenson Ackerman.

Murphy owned two restaurants with her husband and later was a special education teacher in Lakeville, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dale Murphy; and brother, Ralph Ackerman.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Wiger and husband, Brad of Mooresville; two grandsons; and sisters-in-law, Anita Lamb and Marilyn Bentrude and husband, Wes.

Susan Joan Schnepf

MOORESVILLE – Susan Joan Schnepf, 56, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018.

She was born on July 3, 1962, in Bay Shore, N.Y., to Herman “Hank” and Elizabeth Fiore Schnepf.

She was an artist and sculptor.

Survivors include her siblings, Dr. Belinda Jean Leventhal and husband, Bob, Daniel James Schnepf and wife, Lorraine, and Laura Jane Harrington and husband, Pat; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

MOORESVILLE – Barbara Swanson Wenzel, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.

She was born Dec. 23, 1942, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Bror F. and Martha Walker Swanson.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary S. Burke.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald A. Wenzel; children, Robin E. Wenzel and Ronald A. Wenzel Jr. and wife, Betsy; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Martha Celeste Wilkinson

MOORESVILLE – Martha “Celeste” Brotherton Wilkinson, 92, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.

She was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Rowan County to the late Vance and Myrtle Karriker Brotherton.

She was active in Presbyterian Women’s work in the local church, district, Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly. She and her husband’s legacy lives on through the Boyce and Delphia Wilkinson Scholarship and Frank and Celeste Wilkinson Scholarship established at Davidson College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Frank C. Wilkinson; brother-in-law, Barnett Wilkinson and wife, Catherine; brother-in-law, Allen Wilkinson and wife, Charleen; and brother-in-law, Paul Wilkinson and wife, Daisy.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Violet La Shomb and husband, Don, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held Oct. 1 at Prospect Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Willa Drue Narkon

MOORESVILLE – Dr. Willa Drue Everhardt Narkon, 66, died in Phoenix, Ariz., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

She was born Jan. 17, 1952, to Nell Branch Everhardt and the late Dwain G. Everhardt.

She spent 41 years as an educator in the special education field, including retiring in 2016 as associate professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Survivors include her mother, Nell Branch Everhardt of Mooresville; daughter, Elizabeth Narkon Vito and husband, Matt Vito; son, Andrew Narkon and wife, Tara Mapston Narkon; sister, Decie Everhardt; brother, Keye Everhardt and wife, Ann Everhardt; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home 2 p.m. Nov. 1, 2018. An intimate burial with family will follow. A repass will follow (4:30 p.m.) at her mother’s house.
