John Franklin Smith

MOORESVILLE – John “Johnny” Franklin Smith, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Mooresville to the late William Kermit Smith and Johnsie Fleming Smith.

He became owner and operator of John Franklin, LTD in Mooresville.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Brenda Ivey Smith; and brother, William “Bill” Smith Jr.

Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly Randall, DVM (Noble) and Rhonda Smith (Anthony Crosby); fiancée, Cathy Bumgarner Rohloff; sister, Barbara S. Church and husband, Roy; brother, Allen Smith; four grandchildren; and his former wife and mother of his daughters, Toni Torrence Wheeler.

Services were held Oct. 18 at Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Steven Bryan Jenkins

TROUTMAN – Steven Bryan Jenkins, 61, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at his home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1956, in Augusta, Ga., to Billy Eugene Jenkins and the late Wilma “Billie” Orren Jenkins.

Jenkins was a senior structural design engineer at Big Dutchman.

Survivors include his father; wife, Lynn Lass Jenkins; daughters, Brenae Waugh and husband, Austin of Statesville, and Lauren Gilliland and husband, Kyle, of Mooresville; parents-in-law, Charlie and Betty Lass; sister-in-law, Carolyn Lass Bugg; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 7 at Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville.

Fred Gilbert King

MOORESVILLE – Fred Gilbert King, 90, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born June 18, 1928, in Mooresville to the late Coleman David and Nellie Owens King.

He is preceded in death by an infant son; brother, the Rev. Harold G. King and stepfather, Everette R. Mayhew.

King was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Burlington Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline (Polly) Lyon King; children, Dawn Smith and husband, Steve, Fred G. King Jr. and wife, Cindy and Shari Massey and husband, Robin; and four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services were held Oct. 2 at First Wesleyan Church.

Maurice Eugene Parker

MT. ULLA – Maurice Eugene Parker, 91, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born on June 12, 1927, in Rowan County to the late Francis E. Parker and Pinkie White Parker.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer and enjoyed farming.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Holt; and granddaughter, Faith Walther.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Davis Parker; children, David E. Parker, Richard L. Parker and wife, Dorcas, Kimberly Rector and husband, Thurman, Melanie Archie and significant other Charlie Salem; sister, Ann McLaughlin; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 1 at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Barbara Ann White Lipe

MOORESVILLE – Barbara Ann White Lipe, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

She was born June 12, 1948, in Mooresville to the late Clyde Mitchell White and Catherine Helms White.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Samuel Lipe; and brother, Leon White.

She was a registered nurse.

Survivors include her son, Robb Lipe and wife, DeAnn; son, Todd Lipe; brother, Rick White and wife, Charlotte; sister-in-law, Betty White; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 30 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Burial followed in Glenwood Memorial Park.

Alan Edward Stiller

MOORESVILLE – Alan Edward Stiller, 63,  died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018.

He was born on July 12, 1955, in Mooresville to the late Clyde and Dessie Whitlow Stiller.

He was a Sunday School teacher at Northmont Baptist Church in Statesville.

Survivors include his brother, Jeffrey Stiller and wife, Patricia; nephew, David Peeler and wife, Samantha; and several great-nieces and nephews and aunts.

Services were held Sept. 29 at Glenwood Memorial Park.
