MOORESVILLE - A Mooresville police officer was shot and killed late Saturday during a traffic stop on West Plaza Drive.

K9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, 32, a six-year veteran of the Mooresville Police Department, was transported from the scene but died later from his injuries, MPD said.

The suspect fled but was found dead by police in a nearby apartment from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to MPD.

State law enforcement agencies are assisting with the investigation. MPD said more details on the case will be released later.
