Several Mooresville residents graduated from schools recently.

Two Mooresville residents graduated from Clemson University Aug. 10.

They are Caroline A. Sumner, who graduated with a Master of Education in Counselor Education and Education Specialist in Counselor Education, and Tianhui Wei, who graduated with a doctorate in Mathematical Sciences.

They were among more than 1,000 graduates at the summer 2018 graduation ceremony at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum.

Upper Iowa University announced Kourtney Richards of Mooresville graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree in Human Resources–Management Emphasis in March. The school is in Fayette, Iowa.


Student artist recognized

MOORESVILLE – Rachel Peterkin, a senior at Mooresville High School, was named the Artist of the Month for October at the last Mooresville Graded School District Artist meeting.

Peterkin was nominated by Mooresville High drama teacher Ron Higdon, chorus teacher Melanie Kalkan and band teacher Joshua Stevenson.

"Rachel Peterkin has been in marching band for two years having participated in multiple competitions and concerts,” the nomination read. “She is a theater honors student and a member of The International Thespian Society. She recently appeared as Linus in the MHS Spring musical, ‘You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.’

“Rachel is currently working on the two plays submitted for the NC Theatre Conference. She is serving as the production stage manager for ‘Dark Road’ and is playing the role of Violet in the play ‘Goodbye Charles.’ Rachel not only excels in the arts but is an excellent student in all of her studies."
