Sherry Benfield Long

MOORESVILLE – Sherry Benfield Long, 73, of Mooresville, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Autumn Care of Statesville.

She was born May 7, 1945, in Seminole County, Fla., to the late Robert Clayton and Regina Blackwelder Benfield.

She was co-owner of Hillside View Stables in Mooresville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Long; and her brother, Carl Jetton Benfield.

Survivors include her sons, Derwin Long and wife, Allison, and Dwayne Long; and two granddaughters.

Services were held June 10 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel.

Baxter Eubanks Sherrill

MOORESVILLE – Baxter “Buddy” Eubanks Sherrill, 98, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Cornelius, to the late Robert Carl Sherrill and Harriett Wilhelm Sherrill.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a warehouse clerk for Burlington Industries at the Cascade Plant.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lail Sherrill; daughter, Sherrie Lynn Sherrill; sisters, Vassie Deaton, Sarah Caldwell, Edith Abernathy and Lola Henderson; brothers, Alvin, Carl Jr. and Benny Sherrill.

Survivors include his son, Buddy Wayne Sherrill and wife, Sandra; daughter, Beverly S. Mayhew and husband, Mitchell; sister, Eloise Bebber Gant; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 7 at Vanderburg United Methodist Church.

Worley Joe Hodges

MOORESVILLE – Worley Joe Hodges, 80, died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Brightmoor Nursing Center in Salisbury.

He was born March 6, 1938, in Letcher County, Ky., to the late Worley and Tiva Patrell Hodges. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired mining clerk with Bethlehem Steel.

He was preceded in death by sister, Molly Sturgill; and brothers, Frank Hodges and Victor Hodges.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Blevins Hodges; daughter, Kimberly Hodges Goodrum and husband, David; sisters, Fanchion Collins and Rhonda Carty; and two grandchildren.

No services will be held at this time.
